On March 3rd and 4th CIS students in Ms. Charlene Watson’s CNT 2000 and CIS 4361 class will tour the Northwest Regional Data Center. The Northwest Regional Data Center (NWRDC) was founded in 1972 and is based in Tallahassee, Florida. It is the State’s leading computing provider in both educational and governmental communities. “ NWRDC offers superior infrastructure for system support and application hosting, as well as 24 x 7 management support to respond to disasters, ensure uptime, and provide business continuity.”

The NWRDC has a computing cooperative of over 70 member organizations with access to enterprise-level services, a tour of such a state of the art technology Data Center will help the students to understand the breadth, depth, and enormous scope of what it takes to maintain networking on a vast scale. Ms. Watson stated, “I keep telling my students, ‘Data is the new currency.’ And if they are entering IT, they must do it successfully, and have bright careers. They absolutely have to understand that today’s world is all about data: the care of it, the storage of it, the processing of it, the security of it, and the verification of it....etc.”
